Kata T1 Tablet - 7" Android Tablet for the Budget Conscious

I have been asked by a lot of my friends to check out what would be a good android tablet that is out there in the market which they can buy that would be good for their kids, loved ones that are going to handle a computer for the first time or simply for their office employees to use for field work assignments without having to break the company budget. There are have been many brands that have come to mind but one brand stood out because of several factors - Kata T1 Tablet

I came across Kata T1 Tablet in Megamall's cyberzone as I was looking for a cheap but not cheap looking tablet to buy. It caught my attention because the tablet wasn't something that looked ordinary. The built was quite comparable to that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 and was actually much thinner and lighter. Screen size was practically the same at 7" and had two cameras at 2 MP for both front and back. Surprisingly it ran Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 and had about 8Gb of internal memory and has a memory card slot capable of handling up to 32Gb more. 1Ghz cpu speed and 1 Gb ram ensured that the software would run quite smoothly. It even has GPS which allows for easy navigation with free Navi applications such as MapFactor Navigator to be used even without the internet.

The Android ICS software really is a plus for this unit as it is running stock Android ICS with very little bloatware. It runs so smoothly considering that the core cpu processor is clocked at 1Ghz. In terms of gaming it seems to run all the simple games quite well, but those with heavy graphics may tend to have minor glitches from time to time. Temple Run runs well but may have some minor hiccups from time to time but not too badly to cause you to loose the game, I noticed that when I cleared tasks and freed ram for the graphic intensive games they play quite well.

Email clients are pretty much stock android and still runs quite smoothly in the Kata T1 tablet. Skype also works fine with the Kata T1 tablet. It was quite a pleasure to use the Camera for skype calling as the Kata T1 front camera is 2MP, taking photos though on the rear may just be good for regular snap shots which is limited to the 2MP resolution that it can give, no led flash by the way. Viber and WhatsApp are not compatible with this unit, as to why is unclear however I believe it may be due to the reason of it not having sim card for 3g/4g functionality.

Browsing the net is also quite good due to the stock Android ICS browser. Youtube also is a pleasure to watch as the screen is clear. Screen is multi touch making scrolling and navigating around the Kata T1 table easy and quite pleasant. It is important though to take note that upon start up which is a bit slow of the Kata T1 tablet that you'll need to give it a min or so to get warmed up otherwise you'll experience some lags. Multiple downloads though capable of doing so will slow the system down until all downloads are completed.

Overall, I really liked the Kata T1 tablet for being such a feature packed device considering that their price is at Php6799 pesos which is about $161. It is definitely something that wont hurt the budget most especially for first time users. It is quite a good device to introduce people into the Android eco system as well.
